"Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life" Hardback Color Edition Review

The New Cover
Whenever somebody asks me what my favorite tv show, movie, or band is I generally end up giving them a list of about 5 names. When it comes to favorite comics my list is much longer, and six slots are permanently reserved for the "Scott Pilgrim" series. Bryan Lee O'Malley's series of a broke 20 something fighting evil boyfriends and getting his act together is one of the most enjoyable comics to read. Originally released in 2005, the first volume of the "Scott Pilgrim" series is being rereleased in a hardback edition complete with colored images, the original books were black and white. I wont be reviewing the series, as it has been around for a while, and by now you should realize that I recommend it to most people. Go read it.
While only the first volume is currently in the new format, volume 2 comes in November, it seems apparent that this is a gorgeous way to read an already great series. The pages have been increased about 1 inch in either dimension, with new lettering to accomodate the stretch. the art still looks great, and Nathan Fairbairn did a wonderful job as colorist.
In addition to the re-sizing and colors, the color edition comes with character notes and extended background from O'Malley about the creation and development of the characters and series. As a fairly avid fan of the series, I was happy to get some nifty trivia and insight to the making of "Scott Pilgrim". Included in the back are character sketches, photo comparisons of panels to Toronto locations, and O'Malley's original pitch for the series.
Now, recommending a purchase of the re-release is tricky. Until now I did not actually own any of the series, instead I borrowed them from my roommate, this made buying the color edition an easy decision. However, if you already own or have access to the original versions, don't feel the need to walk out right now and buy the new editions; but if you are anything like me, you will probably want to get your hands on the new editions.
